Mustard
Botany: Sinapis arvensis
Preparation: Sun Method
Represents: Serenity
Mustard corresponds to our ability to shake of the gloom and restore a serenity and peace. In a positive mustard state, souls are deeply in tune with the emotions of those around them and invest themselves heavily with the collective consciousness of humanity. These souls often manifest that awareness in art, music or books.
In the negative state, however, that investment often attracts unexplainable (and sometimes sudden) feelings of gloom. The negative mustards of the world are the suffering artists, the alcoholic writers; the drug-addicted pop stars.
One key difference between the darkness that accompanies mustard and the darkness that accompanies other Bach personalities is that the emotions that come with mustard are often never identified. To someone in this state, it truly feels as though they are just attracting and the holding on the sadness floating around in the air.
Imagine a young woman whom others call "moody". To those around her, her emotions and moods are unpredictable and erratic. One day she's happy and full of life; the next day she's fighting back tears. "I don't know what's wrong," she'll say when asked. Soon she'll back to happy and cheerful.
Privately, our young woman worries that she's "crazy". She has tried hard to fight off the feelings of grief but is on the verge of giving up. When asked, she admits that she feels completely out of control of her emotions.
This woman is in a negative mustard state. Her soul is far too vulnerable to the collective consciousness around her and, as a result, she takes on the grief, disappointment and sadness that hangs in the air around her. Unfortunately, she has no real outlet for the emotions she experiences so she is forced to wait until the gray clouds pass before she can feel "normal" again.
The Positive Mustard State
In a positive mustard state, souls are keenly aware of the back-and-forth of human emotions. They trust that even the darkest days will end and can pass through gloomy days with their eyes fixed firmly on the brighter day that they know is just beyond the horizon.
