Chestnut Bud

Botany: Aesculus hippocastanum
Production: Boiling Method
Represents: Experienced Learning

Chestnut bud is associated with learning through experience. Chestnut bud personalities are careful listeners who learn both by observing others and by paying close attention to their own mistakes. They are constantly learning and growing because of the lessons they learn. They are also strong-willed people who do not like to be told what to do.

In a negative chestnut bud state however, there is a disconnect between the learning process and the implementation of the knowledge gained. Like the child who keeps trying to pound a square peg through a round hole, a negative chestnut but personality continues to repeat the same mistakes.

The negative state also encourages the souls to deny the connection between their repeating behaviors and other consequences. The office manager who refuses to change his management style despite the fact that he keeps getting stress-related headaches is a perfect example of this.

Imagine a woman who consistently dates men who, even according to our woman, are not her type. When asked about it, she might say something like, "Oh, yes. I know he's not my type but I just have a thing for the bad boys."

To everyone around her, this woman seems like a smart, capable woman who succeeds in all other areas of life. But when it comes to choosing men, she just keeps on making the same mistake, over and over again.

This woman is in a negative chestnut bud state. She realizes that she has a problem and she realizes that her choice in men makes no sense. At the same time, she simply will not allow herself to learn from past mistakes. Consciously or unconsciously, she refuses to accept that the ghosts of her past will continue to haunt her future unless she makes significant life changes.

The Positive Chestnut Bud State:

In a positive chestnut bud state, the soul is keenly interested in learning and deeply invested in turning that knowledge into a chance for personal growth. People in a positive chestnut bud state recognize mistakes quickly and adjust their own behaviors accordingly.
